How to keep consistent colors in Photoshop

Sometime, you go to output an image and suddenly, the color changes. Or you are trying to combine 2 images and the colors change. What gives?
This tutorial shows you how to keep your colors matching perfectly and explain why they change, as well as how to prevent color shifts. The first part of this Photoshop tutorial, show you how to prevent color shift.

The 2nd part of this tutorial explains basic color management in Photoshop. Even if you are a beginner, these essential steps will help you work with consistent color throughout your workflow. This is not a tutorial on monitor calibration, It’s a tutorial on setting up Photoshop. This applies to any version of Photoshop.

Stop Photoshop changing colors on export

Start with a photo and you want to export a jpg. (This is a photo, I made of talented musician, Taylor Davis.)

Choose File>Export>Save for web.

Usually it starts in the Optimized tab, showing a preview that may or may not match the original.

In this case, it’s close, but more saturated color than the original.

Color management in Photoshop, output colors are changing

Here is the same image before I calibrated my monitor. The color is different but by more.

The more different this looks, the more you need to calibrate your monitor. Even a calibrated monitor, will be slightly different (with these settings) as you see in the first image.

Here is another example of uncalibrated. When I change to the Original tab, it’s different again. You might be seeing these types of shifts. Which is the real color? (Tip: what you saw in Photoshop).

If your colors are wildly off, or you have never calibrated your system, it will make a difference. This is not a tut on Calibration (I can do one, if I get requests). To calibrate, you will need a monitor that supports calibration. I use BenQ monitors. Disclosure, I am a BenQ ambassador, but the isn’t a sponsored tutorial and not a tutorial about monitor calibration. If about Photoshop color settings.

You will also need a device like the Calibrate Display Pro HL, If these is demand, I’ll do a tutorial on Monitor calibration.

How to view Accurate Color in Save from Web in Photoshop

Here is the first tip: Where it says preview in save for web, see if it says Monitor color

Change to Use Document profile. You should see a big difference. For many users, this alone will solve or greatly reduce the problem.

Notice how the colors now perfectly match (on a calibrated display).

The good news, even if the colors don’t match perfectly in Save for web, the output jpg or png image should still match the original.

Export as, an alternative way to export

Adobe wants us to use the newer Image>Export>Export as

You should notice the preview colors are closer to the original. The downside to Export as, is that lack of metadata and some other options, which leaves me still using the Save for web.

Hopefully, this helps you get better previews in save for web. Ok, now, lets set up Photoshop to give us perfect colors every time.

Basic Photoshop Color Management (Please read).

Within the RGB (Red, Green +Blue) world, there are different profiles (AKA color spaces).

 • ProPhoto RGB supports the most colors (aka Largest Color Gamut), but not all colors can be displayed on your monitor.
 • Adobe RGB is a reasonably large color space that can be displayed on monitors that boast 98%-100% Adobe RGB colors, this is common for printing to a desktop printer.
 • sRGB is a smaller colorspace, but all the colors can be viewed on almost any monitor. Because of this, it’s the most common color space for sharing images online. Going to sRGB will cause you to lose some colors, so it’s best as an output file, not your working color.

There are other color spaces , such as P3 which is used by Apply on their devices and is also a good working color space for certain things. It’s a good idea to keep the original file in the largest color gamut possible, to preserve colors (in RAW, this doesn’t matter). Then work on your preferred profile for the image that you are going to output.

To view the color space in your image, choose Document profile from the bottom menu in Photoshop

Here this image is Adobe RGB. (16bpc means its a 16 bit file).

For my workflows, I use Adobe RGB and output to sRGB for sharing online and social media. (Some people use ProPhoto and their reasoning is it supports more colors and has a wider color gamut. For my needs right now, I prefer to be able to view all my colors on my monitor and use Adobe RGB and have a 99% Adobe RGB display on my Benq SW321C.

Please note, I shoot in RAW and store my images in Lightroom, so I don’t lose any color info on my originals. RAW files transcend any color space, because the RAW sensor data is preserved. If you don’t understand that statement, don’t worry, read on.

I set my settings to Adobe RGB in Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as on my camera.

Setting the Default Color Profile

Choose Edit>Color Settings

This is where you choose the default colors Photoshop will use.

Working spaces>RGB this is where you choose the profile that you want to use. Whenever you create a new document, it will now be created into this space.

You can choose how Photoshop handles images that have a different profile, under Color Management Policies.

If the color profile is different than your working space (Adobe RGB in this case) :

Off: The color profile is removed from the image and it becomes untagged.

Preserve Embedded Profile: (my preferred choice) The image opens and the color space is unchanged. (You can manually change it with Image>Convert to Profile).

Convert To working RGB: Every image you open is automatically converted and tagged with the working space. For some people with a closed workflow, this might be a good choice. In my case, I working with different clients and across many different types of mediums, so I prefer to only change what I want to change and do that manually.

Converting Color Profiles

If you image profile is different, or to shows untagged (no color profile attached) then you need to convert it.

There is a wrong and right way to do this, If you choose Image>Assign Profile

You will notice Photoshop shifts the color as you change profiles.

Choose Image>Convert to Profile

Now you can change the profile without changing colors in your image.

If you follow the proceeding streps, you should have less issues with color mismatches.

Hopefully you found this helpful

Great to see you here at the CAFE

The post How to use 3D in Photoshop with Adobe Substance 3D Viewer appeared first on PhotoshopCAFE.

3D is back in Photoshop, but it’s different. Substance 3D Viewer

As many people are aware, Photoshop used to support a pretty decent 3D feature set. These were beefed up in Photoshop CS6 Extended and continued through CC for a number of years. See tutorials on Photoshop 3D here. Adobe started to retire these features because of changes in Direct X and other technologies. This tutorial, shows how to keep legacy 3D working in Photoshop.

I think the most common way people used it, was to composite 3D objects into Photoshop. The advantage of 3D is the ability to change the angle and lighting to make everything match perfectly. Another thing I loved about the 3D was the ability to animate different properties.

3D is back, but in a different way. By Using the new Substance 3D viewer, you are able to position your objects, light and texture them in a much more powerful way than before. You can even generate 3D objects from text. What you don’t have is the ability to interact with the 3D objects, directly in Photoshop, nor the ability to animate the 3D. All that said, for compositing, the results are better than ever, lets take a look.

Getting Set up

At the time of this writing (it will change in the future), this feature is only supported in the Beta Version of Photoshop.

In the creative Cloud App, choose apps>beta and install Photoshop.

You will also need to install Substance 3D viewer beta. This will also install a plugin in Photoshop beta.

Free 3D library

While you are in Creative Cloud app, click on 3D & AR

You will see Substance 3D assets. Click to go to the page, it will open in your web browser.

Here you can download a number of different assets, including models, procedural textures and lighting models. I clicked on the sofa and choose download.

Open an image in Photoshop and Drag and drop the 3D model into Photoshop.

It will appear as a Smart Object layer.

Either double click the smart object, or choose Edit Contents

Substance 3D viewer will appear with your composition in the window.

You can easily position and scale the 3D object, by right, left or middle mouse button dragging. (More in the video at the top).

Position the object. Click to Photoshop and the image in Photoshop will update to match what you see here. This is where the nice integration takes place.

Choose the environment button on the left-bar. (lightbulb icon). Now you can adjust the Lighting to match the angle of the photograph.

Click on light presets to change the lighting environment, you can also load in your own HDR image and use that. This sets the light color and reflections.

Click the texture icon. This is where you change the textures and materials (a material is a texture preset). Here I increased the roughness to make the cushions look more like velvet. You can change many things about the textures.

You can choose a different diffuse color, here we made the cushions red.

If you want to use once of the material presets. click on Material presets and a panel will appear.

Drag the material onto the object. Here I used a velvet preset.

Notice a blue bar appears and says:

Replace all instances: Which will replace all the cushions, or whatever objects are grouped together, or

Apply to all Objects: Will apply the material to the entire 3D model.

Notice all the cushions receive the new preset.

All the properties can be changed including the color. We went for red again, as it matches this scene nicely.

If you choose the bottom-left icon this takes you to the generative window. Here I added the text prompt Victorian Ballroom. Substance uses the 3D object (this is the way I positioned it in 3D space) and generates a background based on the prompt. I made a tut on generative ai and 3D in Substance viewer here.

When you are happy with your 3D model, click the Ray tracing button to render it.

When happy, click To Photoshop in the top Right.

Go back to Photoshop and the image is updated to Match what’s in Substance viewer. To change it, go back to Substance viewer, or double click the smart object. It’s really easy and fun.

Hopefully you found this week’s free Photoshop tutorial useful!

Great to see you here at the CAFE.

Over time, the interface in Photoshop keeps changing. Sometimes things are better and sometimes you prefer the way they used to work, or you just want to customize some things. These 7 settings will save you a lot of time and stop your workflow from being interrupted.

Stop Showing the Home Screen

The Photoshop Home Screen is loved by some and loathed by others. While it’s nice to see thumbnails for previous documents as well as shortcuts, it’s also become a billboard for Adobe to bring your attention to things.

When you launch Photoshop. you are greeted with this screen. Also when you close all the documents, it appears. If you want to go to a blank Photoshop with no documnent, you have to click the PS icon in the top-left corner. But you can turn this off and have PS skip it on launch and not appear when you close your doc. You know, like how it used to work, eons ago.

Choose Photoshop Preferences. Photoshop>Settings (Edit>Preferences (or settings) on Windows).

Choose General and uncheck the box next to: Auto Show the Home Screen.

Now, it won’t appear. You can always access the Home Screen by clicking the House icon on the top Left of Photoshop.

Better Ai Selections

While it’s not perfect, I really love the Auto Selection tools in Photoshop. Select Subject is a really useful tool.

Choose the Quick Selection, Magic Wand or Object selection tool and you will see the Select Subject button appear at the middle of the top toolbar.

Click the arrow and notice 2 settings. Device and Cloud. By default, device is selected because you don’t need internet and its faster. If you are connected to the internet, the Cloud setting will create a more accurate selection because it’s able to leverage Adobes server farm to boost the computing performance.

Problem is, you have change it EVERY time, it’s not sticky. BUt ypou can change the default behaviour.

In Preferences go to Image Processing.

At the top you’ll see, “Select Subject and remove Background”. Change it to Cloud and it will now use that setting every time, unless you choose device.

Loading the free Adobe presets

Photoshop comes loaded with lots of extras. Brushes, gradients, patterns, color swatch, shapes, layer styles and more.

If you will in the panels, you will see a few, but there are much more that you don’t see. Let’s get them!

Choose the panels, not the tools. For example, Window>Gradient.

Click the menu in the top right.

You will see Legacy Gradients. Click it.

Now you’ll get a whole ton of presets load up. Many of these are better than the default ones in Photoshop currently.

Try that for other panels to load up all the extras.

We also have a ton of free Brushes, actions, presets, ebooks and more at the Photoshop Vault.

Make Tools easier to use

If you have used Photoshop for a while, you will remember there used to be a bar with the most useful presets at the top.

Now everything is hidden away in folders. Some may say “organized” into folders. We will use Gradients for this.

Lets get the most useful tools back to within arm’s reach.

Pop open the basics

Click to select a preset. Hold Cmd/Ctrl and Click to select multiple swatches.

Drag above the Folder. You will see a blue line appear when you are above the folder. Release and the Gradients have been moved out of the folder.

When you go to the tools, you will see that they have been moved there too and are much easier to grab. Try this with other presets too and put all your favs within easy reach.

Longer Show Recents list

When you choose File>Open Recent you will see a list of previous images you worked on. By default, there are 20. Lets make it longer shall we?

In Prefs, choose File Handling.

Under Recent File list at the bottom, type in 100 (This is the maximum number).

Click ok

Now when you open the recents, it shows 100. It remembered them all, even though it didn’t show them all.

Custom Workspace

A useful way to work, is to set up a custom Workspace with just the tools that you use.

Close all the panels except the ones you want. I often have just Layers/Channels/Paths, Properties and the Library.

Go to the toolbar and click and hold the elipses.

Customize toolbar will appear. Click Restore Defaults and make sure everything is depressed in the Show at the bottom. This will load in all tools including brand new ones. (This is the leading reason people don’t see a new tool, because they are using and old-workspace, created before that tool existed).

Or, If you prefer to not include certain tools, drag them into the Extra column.

Click Done

Choose Window>WorkSpace>New Workspace

Name it and turn on Shortcuts, Menus and toolbar. Click Save.

To restore that workspace, choose Window>Workspace>Reset…

Clutter be gone!

Task Bar Pin

The Contextual taskbar (Window>Contextual taskbar), is actually quite useful and getting more useful as Adobe adds more tools to it.

But it can be annoying when it pops up over you work.

Hit the elipses on the right and choose Pin bar Position.

Now it will stay wherever you put it.

I hope you found these tips useful.Great to see you here at the CAFE

Colin

The post Photoshop tip. Change Adjustment Layer type in Photoshop appeared first on PhotoshopCAFE.

]]>
There used to be a feature in Photoshop where you could change the type of adjustment layer by right-clicking and choosing change Adjustment type. This feature has been missing from Photoshop since before CS6. But thanks to a new feature, I figured out a way to get it back.

If you watch the video, you’ll see a basic explanation of how it works as well as how to change the color of an object and all the steps to paint the highlights Im showing you in this tip.

Change type of Adjustment layer in Photoshop

Here is a composite I made with talented musician, Taylor Davis as the model. I turned her violin bow into a magic wand kind of a bow and added a glow to it. In order for it to look better, we will add a highlight to her jacket, but also color that highlight.

Be aware, I’m just choosing something to show how it works and you could use this for a variety of different things, let your imagination soar.

Create a curves adjustment layer and brighten up the image. (All steps in video at top).

Choose the Mask and Cmd/Ctrl+I to invert and fill with black. This hides the adjustment.

We will paint back to adjustment just where we want it to make the new highlight.

Choose a brush, and set it to white as the foreground color and paint on the areas to add the highlight reflection.

You can see how the jacket, violin and surrounding areas look more realistic now.

This is what the mask looks like after painting.

Here’s the thing. I want to add a colored layer and paint on the same areas and don’t want to reproduce the mask again. (Yes, I can alt/Option drag the mask to replicate it, use a clipping group, or apply the mask to a group. But we are doing it this way, so I can show you the tip that you can apply to all kinds of scenarios. Also this methods is really fast once you get used to it.).

Press Ctrl/Cmd+J to duplicate the adjustment layer

The problem is, it’s a curves adjustment and we want it to be a hue/saturation adjustment instead.

We can’t change this in the Layers panel anymore. Here’s the tip.

Choose the Adjustment Brush for a moment (we won’t paint with it).

Look at the Contextual Task Bar (it has to be here, this won’t work on the main toolbar art the top) and see curves.

Click on Curves and change it to Hue/Saturation.

Notice, it updates the Adjustment Layer type! Personally, I think this is really cool.

Change the hue adjustment to change the color to blue.

I hope you found this little tip useful. Will you use it every day? Probably not, but now you have it under your belt for when you do need it.

Thanks

Colin

The post Photoshop Generative ai, reference Image remove background appeared first on PhotoshopCAFE.

]]>
New Gen ai Photoshop tool, makes reference image work better

There is a new feature in Photoshop beta currently that makes it easier to get a good result Generating with a reference image. Let’s look at it now. How to get Photoshop beta.

Make selection with the lasso tool. We are going to generate a Vespa scooter.

Click on Generative Fill in the Task bar. (Window>Contextual Task Bar)

Click the Reference image button (Currently only in Photoshop beta, but might be in Photoshop main if you are reading this later)

Click Choose image

Find the reference Image that you want to use.

This is the reference image

You can see the reference image is loaded.

Click Generate

See, it generates the Vespa, but it also has a weird background.

This is because the reference image has a background and Gen Fill is trying to generate that too. For best results, you need to isolate the background from the subject in a reference image. I’ve covered reference images in Photoshop Generative Fill in depth

The new feature, is a remove background check box when you load the reference image.

Click and the background is removed from the reference image, very cool!

Now, it generates more what you would hope for.

Revealing the Original background in Generative Fill

Let’s do a bonus tip here.

When you use Generative Fill, it will generate pixels for the entire selection. If we want to show the original background we can mask it out. Here’s how..

Grab the Quick Selection Tool

Click Select Subject from the Top menu bar

It selects our Vespa

Inverse the selection. Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+I

Choose the mask.

Grab the brush tool, (B)

Make the foreground color black

Make sure Hardness is turned down on the brush for a soft edge.

Paint around the background on the vespa. Black brush stokes on the Layer Mask will hide the current layer and allow the background top show through.

keep painting, but don’t paint over the shadow that was generated

We now see the original background from the bottom layer.

I hope you found this tutorial useful. Keep checking back for new Photoshop features as they become available and other photoshop tutorials here at the CAFE.

Great to see you!

Under Source, choose the document.

You want the same name as the tab you are working in.

Under Layer, choose the layer you want the image to match to. In this case, it’s background.

You will see the colors change. (If not, turn the preview button on in the top right).

Choose fade, and move it to the right for the original color.

This is mainly the hue (but contrast is affected too) move it until the colors match the best

Drag the color intensity slider. Move it until the saturation matches.

Finally, move the Luminance slider until the brightness matches.

When you are happy with the settings, click Ok to apply

You should have a better match now. (Different way of matching colors in Photoshop)

Now, it’s time to blur the background for more realism. How much you blur this is up to you.

How to Blur the background of a photo in Photoshop

With the Background selected, right click and choose Convert to Smart Object. This will let us change the settings later if we want to.

Choose Filter>Blur Gallery>Field Blur

Move the ring to change the amount of blur. Or choose the blur slider at the top left. I used about 4pixels here for a very subtle effect.

Click ok to apply.

I hope you found this simple tutorial useful. There is a lot more you can do with this and I have hundreds of free Photoshop tutorials here at PhotoshopCAFE to help you do almost anything in Photoshop.

How this works

We will make some adjustments to the image. These adjustments will be our “paint”.

We will hide all the Adjustments with a black mask.

Finally, we will paint with a white brush to add the adjustments exactly where we want them. By using Pen pressure, we can shade and blend the adjustment like we would with a pencil. This is my favorite way of working,

Choose new adjustment layer in the layers panel.

Grab a curves adjustment.

Increase the midtones and brights, we are looking to set the new maximum highlights.

See how the land is looking better. Yes, the sky is blown out, but don’t worry. We won’t be applying this adjustment to the entire image, just certain area.

Add a second adjustment layer. This time, Vibrance.

Add a third, levels adjustment.

(Despite what some people say, Levels has a very valid use alongside curves, it gives a linear midtone /highlight boost, that’s hard to accomplish with curves without introducing banding).

Now we have several adjustments, lets combine then together into a “super adjustment” that we can paint onto our image.

Click, Ctrl+Click on each layer to select all three.

Press Ctrl/Cmd+G to group the Adjustments together.

Click the layer mask icon to add a layer mask to the group.

Click the mask to select it. Press Cmd/Ctrl+I to invert your mask.

(If you hold down the alt/Option key as you create the mask, it will make a black mask).

The Adjustment will now be hidden because of the black mask. The image should look like the original again.

Choose the brush tool and a soft edged brush. Set foreground color to white.

Click the brush options

Under transfer, choose Pen Pressure for opacity jitter. This will only be available if you are using a pressure sensitive pen and tablet, such as a Wacom, Xence, Microsoft Surface etc. When you press harder, the effect will be stronger than when you brush lightly.

You can still adjust your images without a tablet, just use a lower opacity, you obviously won’t be able to use pen pressure.

Optional: You can use selection tools such as object selection to isolate regions that you will paint.

In this case, I selected the rock, because I want to constrain the brush strokes to the structure and not on the water. We will use different strokes on the water.

Paint the areas that will be facing the sun to accentuate the highlights and add depth to the image. It’s like painting with light. See the video at the top to see this in action.

Add more highlights on the ocean by gently brushing with the pen.

If you want to increase the effect, duplicate the adjustment group by clicking it in the layers panel and pressing Ctrl/Cmd+J.

Here we have painted on highlights. Lets also do some shadow.

To set up a shadow adjustment.

Click the New Layer icon while holding down alt/Option.

This gives us a dialog box, change it to overlay mode. This will hide gray.

Here is our new adjustment, notice its overlay blend mode. Understand Layer Blend modes in Photoshop here.

This time, choose a brush and set foreground color to black.

Paint on the shadows to chisel some depth into the image. If you like this look and want a deeper walkthrough step-by-step, check out my course on dodge and burn in Photoshop, it will transform your images!

Ai selections in Photoshop with the new Adjustment Brush.

You may be aware of the Adjustment brush added in Photoshop 2024. It does the same thing as an Adjustment Layer and painting on the mask. Its easier and quicker to use, especially for newer Photoshop users. This new feature added a lot of usefulness to this tool, where even advanced users may see this as a worthwhile shortcut. Let look at it now.

Adjusting an object within a photo. Brighten a person.

Let’s brighten the woman in this photo. This example will allow you to see how this tool works.

starting image of beautiful woman hiking

Choose the Adjustment Brush from the toolbox. Can’t find the adjustment brush? Here is the fix.

how to find the Adjustment Brush in Photoshop

Click on the adjustment in the toolbar at the top, to choose an adjustment.

Choose an adjustment type for the adjustment brush

Choose Exposure.

Click the icon to turn on object selection.

The object selection tool in the Adjustment Brush makes ai selections in Photoshop

As you roll over different parts of the image, you will see different objects highlighted. Sometimes, it will show the whole person, other times, part of the person.

Adding to the selection with the Adjustment Brush in Photoshop

Notice the woman is adjusted, but her backpack doesn’t match the photo, because it wasn’t part of the selection mask,

With the Adjustment Brush still selected, click on the Object Selection button in the top toolbar, and then, roll over the backpack.

How. to add to selection in Photoshop

Click to select.

Notice it’s added to the mask and takes on the adjustments immediately, because it’s part of the same mask.

Changing the background color of a photo in Photoshop with the Adjustment Brush.

Let’s look at a different example, so we can use the tool in a different way. We will change the background color.

Choose the Adjustment Brush, as before.

Choose Hue/Saturation as the Adjustment type.

Click the Object selection option in the toolbar.

select the woman in photoshop

As you roll overe the image, notice different parts are highlighted.

How to select different parts of an object

What we want to do, is select the entire foreground in a single selection. We can’t do this by rolling over in this case.

Instead go to the taskbar (I positioned the taskbar by the top toolbar here).

Choose Apply To Object. (If you are confused, see the video at the top).

Use Apply to Object tool in the task bar in Photoshop

With Apply to Object, drag to make a selection around the entire are we want to select.

Select a person in photoshop

It nicely makes a selection and masks it out.

You can add to the mask, or remove from the mask, using selection tools, or the black or white brush. How to use layer masks in Photoshop.

Selection to layer mask

Let’s inverse (swap) the selection, so that the background will be selected, instead of the foreground.

Press Cmd+I (Ctrl+I Windows).

Generative Remove in Lightroom deep dive https://photoshopcafe.com/generative-remove-in-lightroom-deep-dive/ https://photoshopcafe.com/generative-remove-in-lightroom-deep-dive/#comments Tue, 04 Jun 2024 00:05:33 +0000 https://photoshopcafe.com/?p=59586 3 big features of Generative Remove in Lightroom and ACR ai.

Things you may not know about Generative Remove in Lightroom

Lets take a deeper look into Generative Remove in Lightroom Classic. It works exactly the same in Camera Raw.

If you can’t upgrade Lightroom see this

Here is a photo with lots of extra people in it. Let’s remove them.

Generative Remove Lightroom Classic

Object aware

Turn on Generative ai and Object aware from the Remove panel.

Scribble select the man in the corner

Because Object aware is on, the scribble select becomes a nice selection. You want to go over the boundaries a little with Gen remove.

When you apply, it removes the man nicely

Skip the Refine Panel

Scribble select while holding down the Ctrl/Cmd key to skip Refine

Now this man is instantly removed.

Because the resolution is 1024 x 1024 larger removals will leave a softer background. (1024 x 1024 is 3.5 inches at 300ppi)

You can use the stamp tool to fix the softer patch area, this is a lot easier now the ai removal has already taken place.

Variations

For the next removal, select the group of people in the left. Notice a potential problem; the back half of the dog os behind the group. What will happen?

Generative Remove, removes the people and generates the back half of the dog. So it is capable of generating things.

Click the variations button to cycle between 3 variations.

Choose “Refresh” if you don’t like any of the variations. Unlike Photoshop, Lightroom only holds 3 variations at a time. You can choose the history panel and access the other variations though.

Multiple ai patches at once

Notice the photo has raindrops on the lens. This would have rendered the photo useless in the past. With Generative Remove, we can now save the photo.

Turn off Object aware for this task

Use the [ and ] bracket keys to adjust the size of the brush.

Apply the brush to both rain drops.

Notice they are nicely removed.

If you look, you will see that 2 pins have been created. Each of the spots has aplied its own instance of Generative Remove. This means that each spot gets its own variations, as well as not sharing a large area with one fill which will limit the resolution.

Each spot has its own 3 variations to choose from.

Generative ai and Masks

Lets remove these people from an image that has already been editing with masks.

Select the people and apply the Generative Remove tool

Notice the people are removed, but it leaves behind artifacts.

This is because Gen Remove is working off the original image pixels.

The solution to to apply Generative remove at the beginning of the workflow.

If you have images that you already used masks on, not problem.

Click the ellipses menu and choose Update al masks.

The mask updates and now it looks nice.

I hope you enjoyed this deeper look in the new Generative Remove in Lightroom.

Great to see you here at the CAFE
